Here are my list of reasons on why Iceland should be your next travel destination.

Icelandic Nature

Iceland is one of countries filled with abundant exquisite nature. Icelandic landscapes are shaped by the forces of nature and vary from deep fjords to vast volcanic deserts. Through to black sand beaches, snow-capped mountains, and staggering waterfalls. Iceland’s nature remains mostly unspoiled as the island is scarcely populated.

It is a volcanic island in which over 10 percent of Iceland’s territory is covered by glaciers, which includes Vatnajokull, the largest glacier in Europe. Due to its volcanic origin, the country’s nature features gushing geysers, natural hot springs, as well as lava fields spreading as far as the eye can see. Iceland’s numerous rivers and picturesque waterfalls are harnessed to provide cheap and environment-friendly hydroelectric energy.

Northern Lights

The Northern Lights season also called aurora borealis is from late August to mid-April. However, from late September to late March, it is dark after 6 pm, and one enjoys maximum chances to experience northern lights. On a yearly basis, the Lights are at their peak in September and March. The reasons for this trend are due to the March and September equinox. Iceland is located at a high latitude, meaning there is no darkness from mid-April until mid-August. It is highly unlikely that Northern Lights cannot be observed during this period. This is one of the amazing experiences.

Icelandic People

Icelanders are friendly and welcoming, to the extent that we’ve recently been voted the friendliest country in the world. For anyone under the age of 50, and in most cases even older, you can expect the person to speak fluent English. It’s not uncommon for Icelanders to speak two or even three more languages besides Icelandic, the most common being Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, German, French or Spanish. The people here realize that it’s very unlikely for foreigners to speak their native tongue. For your information, Iceland is the least populated country in the world with a population of around 350,000.

Icelandic Wild Life

Iceland is filled with collection of few unique animals. The vast majority of animals you will see as you travel around Iceland are domestic. This, after all, is a nation that relies heavily on agriculture. While farm animals may not seem to be the most fascinating creatures, the way they have adapted to the country’s climate, and their roles throughout Icelandic history, have been essential for human survival. Some of the animals you can notice are Icelandic Sheep, Icelandic Dog, Icelandic Horse, Whales , Arctic foxes, Seals , Puffins etc.

Iceland’s Geothermal Spa’s

Iceland’s volcanic activity is major part of the country’s appeal. It has created its magnificent mountain ranges, dramatic lava fields, countless craters and many other spectacular features. For guests coming to this country seeking relaxation, however, it is the water heated from the fires beneath the earth that make Iceland so special.

Bathing in this geothermal water is a unique and rejuvenating experience, and there are many ways you can do it. While heading into out into the nature to find natural springs is great fun, and the many pools around the country are perfect places to unwind and meet new people, it is the geothermal spas that boast the highest forms of luxury.

Game of thrones Location

I am not sure if you are aware of HBO’s Game of Thrones TV series which was an epic of course. You must be aware that this series was shot in many places in Iceland. So, If you are a GOT fan , then you must visit Iceland 🙂

Last but not the least, Iceland is an expensive and a strong economy. Cost of living is high in Iceland. Tourism industry is one of the major revenue generators. It is always advised to travel as early as possible to Iceland before the cost of living becomes extremely expensive.
